Gwenyth Glynn Longwools

is dedicated to the preservation and proliferation of rare longwool breeds of sheep.

Our Wensleydale and Teeswater sheep produce the finest most lustrous fleeces of all the longwools breeds. The long purled locks can easily grow 12 or more inches per year. When spun it will produce a very strong yet supple yarn with a soft elegant drape. The curly locks are a lovely accent to hand spun yarn and many imaginative projects.

Longwool fiber, has a long staple, usually 6 inches or more, and is much easier for handspinning, especially for the beginning spinner. They produce an exceptionally strong yarn due to the long fibers binding togethers and their unique structure produces a lovely shine, known in the industry as luster. The Wensleydale and Teeswater breeds carry the most luster of any of the longwool breeds. The Teeswater fleeces carry slightly more than the Wensleydale as a rule, however that characteristic varies with individuals in each breed.

While producing a strong yarn, it has an amazing softness, luster and drape without loss of shape in a knitted garment and will wear for years without forming annoying pills.

We are pleased to offer these exceptional products from our flocks to the fibre community. Your purchase will help ensure the preservation of these two exceptional longwool breeds of sheep.
